Tom Shepard, CFP, Founder & CEO.

Tom has worked in the world of finance for over 27 years. He has served as Finance Director at Maine School Administrative District 51, and is the Treasurer of Sea Change Yoga – a Trauma Sensitive offering to underserved populations. Tom was both a student and a teacher as a member of the Omicron Class at the Institute for Civic Leadership producing Writings on the Seven Levels of Sustainable Non-Profits, and taught personal finance and mathematics at Gould Academy in the mid-1990’s. Tom gives workshops using the principles which guide his business to different audiences principally through Currency Camp LLC, has been an interesting guest on various radio shows and podcasts and recently published the book, Money Isn’t Everything, Everything is Money: A personalized approach to valuing Time, Energy, Relationships and Money. Tom is an avid lacrosse player and lives with his family in Cumberland, Maine.

 

Jennifer Kanwit, EA, Business Partner

As the EA, Business Partner at shepard FINANCIAL, Jennifer is focused on client management and event planning for the Currency Institute event space. Jennifer’s 10 year track record supporting diverse groups of leaders and working on a broad array of events has lead Jennifer to focus on building her network and creating community collaborations. Prior to this role, Jennifer worked at Coastal Enterprises, supporting the CEO, President and Women’s Business Center program.

Jennifer holds a B.A. from Rutgers College and Masters degrees from Columbia – Teachers College. When she is not working, Jennifer enjoys spending time skiing and sailing with her husband, two kids and Labradoodle.

 

Nate Waller, DIrector of Operations

Nate has a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Maine and has more than ten years of financial experience. He has a background in Relationship Management and Securities as well as a FINRA Series 7 currently held with LPL Financial, a State of Maine Life and Health Insurance license, and is a registered State of Maine Notary Public. In addition to doing charitable work with the United Way of Greater Portland and volunteering for the Jailbird Lock-Up Fundraiser for the MDA, Nate enjoys outdoor activities such as boating/fishing, golfing, and tennis.

Tim Wyand, CSRIC®, Financial Advisor

Originally from Rochester, NY, Tim spent his early career working in wealth management for Bear Stearns and Citigroup in New York City. In 2013, Tim moved to Tanzania to work with several early investors in East Africa, and then in 2015 joined the UN’s Principles for Responsible Investment in London, working with global asset owners to promote responsible investment practices. After returning to the US, Tim spent 2 years as an advisor with Layline Advisors before joining Shepard Financial in November of 2020, building financial planning and investment solutions which account for environmental and social factors in addition to real world impact. Outside of work, Tim, his wife Chloe, and son Aedan can be found hiking, camping, and enjoying the outdoors.
